Bibliographical description

Three formative monuments of modern children’s illustration.

Histoire de Babar is the first state of the 1931 original edition, identified by the absence of the small elephant logo on the copyright page. Le Voyage de Babar is a later issue of the 1932 original edition and bears an inscription dated 2 September 1938. Le Roi Babar is the 1933 French original edition, very probably an early printing.

The colourful boards and elephant-pattern endpapers are present. The set remains visually powerful, but the bindings must be handled with great care.

Condition and checks

Three original albums, each with its own vulnerabilities.

Histoire de Babar

Wear to boards and corners; the final gathering is fragile and must not be forced.

Le Voyage de Babar

Blue and yellow boards, family inscription dated 1938; binding weakened.

Le Roi Babar

Yellow boards and blue endpapers; the binding is extremely fragile with partially detached sections.
